Welcome to our Summer Newsletter! It's been a quarter full of activities and exciting transitions for Urban Movement Labs. Last July, we held a retreat with our board and staff members to discuss the organization's goals for facilitating transportation technologies and UML's commitment to safe, sustainable, and equitable new mobility. This opportunity to come together, reflect on our first years as an organization, and think critically about how our next steps will strengthen UML's ability to realize our commitment to a first-community approach to incorporating mobility technology to address the challenges of today.
Humans of New Mobility
Our event series "Humans of New Mobility" is coming this fall! In collaboration with Siemens, we are organizing interactive workshops to discuss the future of transportation in LA and beyond. Our first event will be about Electric & Shared Mobility. We have already secured a panel of rockstars in the new mobility space. Join us here! And check out the details of our partnership with Siemens here.
UML at MOVE London and ITS California
UML participated at MOVE London last June and ITS California last May. At MOVE London, we presented UML's Advanced Air Mobility plans for the City of Los Angeles. These three blog posts, published before this event, summarize our progress:
How Might Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Impact City Operations?
What is the Regulatory Role of a City when it Comes to Urban Air Mobility (UAM)?
At ITS America, we presented our exciting pilot projects to manage the chaotic curb and create a digital ecosystem at the panel "Get the #!&! Off of My Curb!" Check out our report Digitizing the Curb.
UML Innovating Pasadena
Urban Movement Labs’ Director, Strategy & Development, Francis Pollara, presented UML’s work regulating transportation technologies at a meet-up by Innovate Pasadena. Check out the recording here.
Clint Harper at CAMI AAM 101 and at the Electric Aircraft Symposium
Our Urban Air Mobility Fellow, Clint Harper, continued UML’s outreach strategies to communicate our work on planning Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). This time, Clint traveled to San Francisco and participated in the AAM 101 event, an introduction to AAM for state and local decision-makers. Then, Clint was a speaker at the Annual Electric Aircraft Symposium at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Here, experts discussed the latest in electric aircraft, propulsion systems, energy sources, certification, regional and urban use cases, and the current market opportunities — for electric vertical/short/conventional takeoff and landing (eVTOL / eSTOL /eCTOL) aircraft.
